Satellites Cry [Afterwards Oramics Mix]

from part-released: Afterwards by Audible Smile

/

about

'Satellites Cry' is the music imagined for a segment of the 1967 'Our World' show, the first live international TV show bounced around the world by satellite.

We've tried to give voices to those satellites, calling to each other across the vast void of space, and to us back on Earth, on Our World.

The piece uses just one source for it's sounds - Daphne Oram's Oramics Machine. We tried to imagine how she would have approached the brief and used processes she would be familiar with - layering sounds, adding reverb, and so on.

It's currently only available thanks to being an entry in the Science Museum's 'Oramix' competition, as part of the ongoing 'From Oramics to Electronica' exhibition featuring the original Oramics Machine conceived by Daphne and realised by Graham Wrench.

about

Audible Smile UK

No long pretentious 'artistic statement'
or any other Hoxtonian/Hipster guff-bubbles here!

It's quite simple. We like lots of (often very different) music that we wish we could have written, so here are some of our attempts. If you find you like some of them or notice you're humming one later on, great, that makes it worthwhile.

We hope you enjoy what we've got here, and thanks for looking in!
